allan hancock rush attack throttles seahawks in loss
The Harbor football team found itself having to defend its very own signature attack and was unsuccessful, as the Seahawks allowed 352 rush yards in a 56-11 loss against host Allan Hancock in the Western State Bowl Saturday night.
Harbor (7-4) ran for 213 yards, but were unable to convert key 3rd downs en route to a series of punts and a hard time defending the power game of the Bulldogs. Chris Smith threw for 163 yards and a touchdown, but had an interception returned 37 yards for an Allan Hancock touchdown in the 4th quarter. Theron West rushed for 81 yards on 10 carries, while Joron Adams totaled 69 yards on 11 touches. Lonnie Turner had another solid outing with seven receptions for 97 yards. Delvon Purvis caught the lone touchdown pass from Smith late in the 4th from two yards out and finished with three catches for 68 yards.
Matt Willis managed to break his own school single-game record of 19 tackles and finished with 20 for the game. His 142 tackles led the state and stands as a school record.
The Seahawks finished a season filled with ups and downs, which saw its hopes for a 2nd consecutive Central West Conference title dashed in consecutive losses to Long Beach City and Chaffey, both on final plays of the game. Harbor rebounded with a forfeit victory over Citrus, a shootout thriller win against Antelope Valley College and a dominant outing at Moorpark. Harbor went 4-1 in a tough non-conference schedule, with its biggest win in recent memory coming in the season opener over Cerritos. Harbor will look to continue its winning ways next season on the hunt for another conference championship.
