W E L C O M E TO PACE - HUMANITIES 6

GREAT PEOPLE - GREAT ERAS

Instructor: Mona Dallas Reddick, Ph.D.

The information on this page will help acquaint you with PACE and give you a chance to browse some of the materials used in Humanities 6.  A syllabus that provides information on course requirements and assignments will be handed out in class. The Print, Audio and Visual Resource List below is under construction, and more items will be added soon. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about Humanities 6. Please contact me at mdreddick@rocketmail.com .

Location:  On the first day of class, look for PACE room assignments posted on the doors of the NEA Bldg. and on the hall door of NEA that leads into the suite of faculty offices and the PACE office.

In addition to meeting one night a week for two hours, our class also meets on selected Saturdays.  You attend your regular classes in the a.m. on Saturday, and then all PACE students meet for afternoon programs or fieldtrips.  Even if you are taking only one class in PACE, you are required to attend the afternoon session as well.  The afternoons are interdisciplinary.  Consult the online schedule of classes at lahc.edu under the PACE Section for the list of Saturdays that we meet.

Important
: After enrolling, check to see if you have internet access to library databases. A number of resources for our class (readings and visuals) will be available online.  For information on setting up your user name and i. d., visit http://www.lahc.edu/library/remotefaq.html

Its also a good idea to obtain a Los Angeles Public Library card. Check the phone book or online for a branch nearest you. With a library card you can request books from the vast holdings of the Central Branch and have them sent to your local branch for pick-up.

Plan on obtaining a student i.d. once classes begin. I.d.'s are issued on the second floor of  Seahawk Center. Phone no. 310-233-4594. With a student i.d. you are entitled to various discounts on entry fees, for instance at museums, and the i.d. can double as your library card.

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK

The Humanistic Tradition, by Gloria K. Fiero, Books. 1 & 2, Sixth Edition.  Books one and  two are part of a six-book series.  We will use only the first two books.  Look for them in the PACE section of the Campus Bookstore.  They are usually bundled into one package. Please bring the book to each  class meeting.
