    Social and Behavioral Sciences Home

Economists study society's structure, with particular emphasis on its organizations designed to facilitate the performance of the ordinary tasks of life. They are interested, in other words, in the methods of motivations for the financing, production, distribution and consumption of material goods and services. They describe and analyze the organizations of industries, the makeup and organization of the labor force, the money, banking and credit structure, international trade, finance and investment, the size, structure and distribution of the national product or income, and the use and conservation of natural resources. They also study the effects of movements and growth of population, the conditions for economic growth and development, and ways to expand trade and raise living standards.

Course Descriptions

 

 

 

Calculus is highly recommended for economic students

 

1 - Principles of Economics I (3) (Microeconomics) UC:CSU

Lecture 3 hours and 20 minutes per week.

This course is an introduction to the principles of economic analysis and economic policy. Emphasis is placed on the micro, or price and market approach, with special emphasis on the allocation of resources and the distribution of income through the price system.

 

2 - Principles of Economics II (3) (Macroeconomics) UC:CSU

Economics I is not a prerequisite for this course.

Lecture 3 hours and 20 minutes per week.

Emphasis is placed on the macro or national income approach, with special attention given to aggregate economics, money and banking, and national income.

 

5 - Economics for the Citizen (3) CSU

Students with credit in Economics 001 and/or 002 should not enroll in Economics 005.

Lecture 3 hours and 20 minutes per week.

This course is a survey of the development, functioning, and significance of economic institutions in the American way of life. The course is designed for those students who desire to get an economic perspective without an intensive or technical investigation.
