Oceanography 1: Introduction to Oceanography 3 Units  UC: CSU
Recommended corequisite: Oceanography 10.
Lecture 3 hrs per week
This course introduces the student to the field of oceanography. Major topics to be studied include the formation and features of the seafloor, islands and coastlines, properties of seawater, motions of the sea (waves, tides, and currents), and marine life. Special reference is made to California and the problems of human uses of the sea. Field trips to marine areas of southern California are made.

Oceanography 10: Physical Oceanography Laboratory   2 Units  UC: CSU
Pre requisite or corequisite: Geology 1.
Lecture 1 hr, and laboratory 2 hrs per week
This course introduces the student to the tools of oceanography and what is being used in oceanographic research today. For example instruments used to gather data for nautical charts, sediment samplers, seawater samplers, and other tools. The student will also learn to use microscopic and other methods of analysis.
States. Landscape interpretation and regional geology are emphasized.
