Accreditation: About
Welcome to the Los Angeles Harbor College Accreditation webpage
The primary focus of the accreditation work at Harbor College throughout 2012-13 is to sustain a campus-wide climate of accreditation that is informed by ongoing assessment and evaluation. Integral to this work is the integration of data reported from Student Learning and Service Area Outcomes, with input from Program Reviews, into all planning and budget decisions.
Our renewed emphasis on the integration process was stimulated by Harbor College's 2012 Self-Evaluation Study. The college work on governance, planning, and budget are the focus of the accreditation Standard I A&B (Institutional Effectiveness and Planning) and Standard IIID (Budget) committees. These committees' self-evaluation report was examined by a visiting ACCJC team in March 2012 and formed the basis for two recommendations, one focusing on governance and planning and the second on budget. These recommendations, along with recommendations to the District Office, resulted in sanctions for three of the District's nine colleges, including probationary status for Harbor College.
In response to this sanction, the Harbor College community has recommitted itself to streamlining its planning processes and to ensuring that the resulting budget decisions are transparent, data driven, and directed toward student success. The Accreditation Steering Committee meets monthly to review progress on these two recommendations as does the budget committee and a budget taskforce. All accreditation standard committees meet once/ each semester to review activities pertinent to the actionable improvement items identified in the 2012 report and to keep the campus updated on broader accreditation issues. If you are interested in joining this effort and supporting the college community, check the Shared Governance Calendar for meeting dates or contact either of the accreditation coordinators.
