Q: What are the requirements for eligible student government officers?
A: Those eligible to hold office in student government must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average, must be enrolled in no less than 6 units, must not be on any kind of academic or progress related probation, and must not have completed more than 80 units.
Q: Can part-time students become ASO senators/officers?
A: Part-time students can become ASO senators/officers as long they enroll in no less than 6 units and meet all other eligibility requirements.

A: Please visit the Associated Student Organization office on the second floor of Seahawk Center, visit ASO Advisor Gary Gonzales in the Student Activies Office or call/email one of your ASO Representatives. To contact any of your ASO representatives by email or phone refer to "About ASO" on the ASO Website.
Q: How do I get involved with ASO?
A: The best way to get involved is to attend ASO programs, activities, and meetings. If you are interested in elected or appointed positions within the ASO please read the section on how to join the ASO. If you want to be actively involved with campus life, join one of our active campus clubs or start your own club.

A: ASO stands for Associated Student Organization.
Q: What is the difference between being an ASO Member and being an ASO senator?
A: ASO senators must be paid ASO members, but ASO members are not automatically in the senate. ASO senators are elected officers participating in student government. ASO members enjoy various benefits for supporting the ASO by paying membership dues.
Q: How much does it cost to be an ASO member?
A: The ASO membership fee is $10.00.
Q: What are the benefits of being an ASO member?
A: ASO Members receive a discount on parking fees, club access, sholarship eligibility, discounts on services at the Seahawk Center, access to Harbor sporting events, and discounts at local businesses.
Q: Do I have to pay the ASO membership fee?
A: No, you do not have to pay the ASO membership fee. You can opt out of paying the fee. However, if you want to join the senate, a club, or apply for a scholarship you must pay the ASO membership fee to be eligible.
Q: How do I join ASO?
A: Any student may join the ASO as they meet the eligibility requirements listed above. Eligible students must fill out an ASO Officer Application, be interviewed, complete and return an election packet or petition for election to ASO office, and be elected during the annual general elections or appointed and then ratified by the senate.

A: Student government is excellent leadership training. A term as a student government representative may greatly enhance your academic and professional resume. Being a member of the student government is a great opportunity to meet new people and make long lasting friendships. Finally, all senators and executive officers received transcript notation.
Q: What does the ASO do?
A: The ASO is responsible for enhancing student life, sponsoring events on campus, making recommendations and contributing opinions and information to the college administration and Board of Trustees regarding student concerns, provides support to the student clubs on campus.
Q: What is expected of an ASO officer?
A: ASO Executive Officers and Senators are expected to attend all ASO meetings, pertinent Executive Finance Committtee (EFC) meetings, Shared Governance meetings, and any other meeting where student representation is requested. ASO Executive Officers and Senators are also expected to support and participate in ASO events as well as formulate legislation to enhance student life and address student concerns.

A: The Associated Student Organization is the student government organization at Los Angeles Harbor College. The ASO Executive Officers and Senators are elected every spring semester or are appointed by the current ASO president and approved by the current senate to fill vacancies.
